Everyday, every morning, any chance that we can get. We'll make sure we look good in the mirror. It tells us what we look like at that moment. No past reflection nor future sights. Only the present. But the day will come when we take a second look at the person staring back at us.
They're grown. They're older, more mature. That the person we're looking at, seemingly, isn't you. You have to take another look, a longer look. And as we look we find ourselves contemplating life and everything we've been through. The hardships, the losses, the good times, the happy moments that still make us smile. Then we begin to think about the things we're going through now. School, friends, work, life's road and it's complicated map. And to bring our thinking to a close, our futures. The possibilities, our future families, our future selves.
We stare close into the eyes of this person staring back at us. Surprised by the events that we've lived through throughout our lives and wondering if we'll ever make it to through the events that have yet to come. But as we continue to look at those eyes, those eyes that have seen what we've seen, we come to the conclusion even though we don't seem the same on the outside nor the inside. We are still we. We are still the same little child that our parents brought into this world and raised. We are stronger, we are weaker. We are the same, we are different. We are becoming what we're supposed to be.
You can't help but smile. Yes, a few wounds you may carry, but you don't look to shabby.
You have grown. You are older, more mature.
You are the reflection staring back at you.
And as you pass by that mirror everyday, you'll always be able to see the progress that you make as you travel that complicated map.
For as much as we sometimes hate it. Mirrors cannot and will not lie.
